100 years and 1 month

My grandmother passed away a few days ago, she was 100 years old and 1 month (we celebrated her birthday in June). She left us quickly and quietly, before time could weaken her, with loved people around, the way you would want it to happen.

When I was little, I loved her scent, which was a Toulouse violet fragrance. Knowing this, one day she gave me a tiny bottle of her perfume, and said "it's an old women perfume, you know". So I didn't really wear it, but smelled the tiny bottle from time to time. Last month at her birthday, I could smell her lovely scent and told her how I liked it. She said "it's violet, you know?!" "of course I know!". Now I am considering getting another little bottle of this extract of happy moments with her.

May you see these flowers from where you are, Marinette :)

  2. What a beautiful post - so moving & full of love X

I have always found the sense of smell one of the most powerful for transporting you straight back to the past - a lovely way to remain close to your Grandmother.

And wow, what a fantastic age XXX

  3. Sorry for your loss; still what joy... I am now 45 and I lost both my Gran and Nan when I was only 5 years old. To this day I wish I could have an adult conversation with my Gran, my Mum's Mum, who I spent endless happy hours with... Try to be happy not sad; I know you will meet again when the time is right...
